House & Home - Office Building Survey

As office vacancies continue to reshape downtowns across the country, IPX1031, a Fidelity National subsidiary, recently surveyed Americans about how they think empty office buildings should be repurposed.

The report finds 75% of Americans say they would live in a converted office building and 83% would support government incentives to repurpose vacant office buildings.

  • 65% say their community needs more affordable housing
  • 72% would support local tax incentives for office redevelopment
  • 56% say empty office buildings negatively impact how they feel about their community

Additionally, nearly 9 in 10 (88%) Americans notice vacant or underutilized office buildings in their area and 68% view these vacant buildings as a problem.
